Pilat Regional Nature Park
The Site of the Charterhouse in Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez is nestled like a jewel in the natural setting of Pilat Regional Nature Park.
The Nature Park, supported by inhabitants who were aware of the richness and fragility of their territory, was born in 1974. Since that date, the Regional Nature Park has endeavoured to promote the economic and social development of the territory as long as it preserves and enhances the natural, cultural, and landscape heritage.
A mid-mountain massif with contrasting relief, whose altitude ranges between 140 and 1432 m, the Pilat is a preserved rural area, between the Rhône and Gier valleys, at the gates of the metropolises of Lyon and Saint-Étienne.
The Nature Park extends over 48 municipalities with 50,000 inhabitants, and spans over 700 km². It also maintains privileged relations with 17 gateway towns. The park is located on the territory of several communities, including Saint-Étienne Métropole.

The Tourist Office of Saint-Étienne Métropole, in charge of promoting the Site of the Charterhouse in Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez is in many ways a partner of the Pilat Regional Nature Park, and a player in its dynamic development approach, in a transversal way, respectful of the heritage and the singular identity of the territory.
The Nature Park is fully involved in the protection and enhancement of the Site of the Charterhouse. The Nature Park body is the owner of the restored hermitage that allows visitors to imagine the daily life of a Carthusian father.
